On October 25 & 26, 2025, we will be hosting a Fall Tracking/Mantrailing Seminar with Cheryl Carlson. The focus of this seminar will be on introduction to tracking for green/unstarted dogs, but there will also be availability and opportunities for more advanced dogs (working and sport). This is an outdoor event and will be rain or shine.
About the instructor:
Cheryl Carlson has been training dogs to track since 1982. Her initial involvement was in training dogs for the sport of Schutzhund, as it was called back then. She was fortunate to have the opportunity to train 4 dogs to SchIII successfully. In 1985, she branched out into training police K9 to track. She continues to provide police k9 tracking services, with her latest dog being trained for the city of Potterville. She also was a certified dog handler in FEMA for SAR with her GSD Sebastian, who was trained to SCH II, and then switched to French Ring, ultimately titling in Campagne III which required stringent tracking. Throughout her career, she has prepared multiple tracking teams for the AKC T.D and T.D.X, as well as training autism service dogs to track the individuals that were prone to elopement. To date, she continues to train tracking dogs for multiple purposes.
Cost:
There are limited working spots available at $125/day. You can sign up for Saturday only, Sunday only, or both. Beginner dogs will have ample opportunity in one day to learn foundational skills but are welcome to return a second day for additional reps. For experienced dogs we recommend signing up for both days, in case more time is needed for longer and/or aged tracks, or for problem solving.
Audit spots are $75 for the weekend and are unlimited.
About the Amstel Training & Event Center:
There is ample parking available on grass as well as room to set up crates and canopies. The location has a portable restroom but no running water, so please remember to bring some for your dogs. There is a small barn on the property with power for charging phones etc. The Center is about 1 mile south of the city of Perry, where there are several restaurants and fast food options.
